Read What Others Have to Say About Shannon King's Training Services...

A love for creatures is in Shannon's genes. Her Mom grew up with horses and her grandfather raised and rode horses a lot. Growing up with a variety of pets deepened Shannon's empathy and understanding of critter's nature... - Click Here to Read More...
To the Director of the Select Trainer Program,

I recently attended and participated in a 4 day symposium/riding clinic given by Shannon King. I found the information in the clinic to be interesting and beneficial. Shannon demonstrated the riding techniques in a very clear, concise manner. Her approach for both horse and rider was easily understood and thorough. Shannon's full understanding of the John Lyons technique is illustrated in her relationship with her own horses as well as the horses she has trained.... - Click Here to Read More...

I am writing this letter in reference to a clinic I attended which was put on by Shannon King. Shannon has a very quiet and calm manner when dealing with both horses and people. I initially noticed this at the Thursday night demo with the young, unbroke horse. She worked slowly and made sure the horse was ready for every step of the way. Shannon has a nice way of talking with the audience while still focussing on the horse she is working in the round pen. It was a please to watch Shannon work.... - Click Here to Read More...
Shannon,
Thank you so much for the clinic this past weekend. Both Sue and I learned a lot, as well as Montana. You have a gift with horses that one can see in your face and how you talk to and about the horse you're working with. - Click Here to Read More...
RE: Colt Starting

When it became obvious that my beloved old Tennessee Walker (Taffy) would be moving on to greener pastures within the next few years, my Mother presented me with a gorgeous, spunky little colt out of her mare for my birthday.

The colt (Red Cloud) was the cutest thing, but my mind quickly fast forwarded to visions of me attempting to ride this horse four years later, and the vision I had was not pretty. After all, I’d ridden Taffy almost exclusively for 20 years! We had developed that special relationship that comes with long familiarity. He was my horse, and I was his person. The idea of starting over with a completely new, unbroke & green horse was not appealing. I realized right away that I did not have the riding skills or knowledge to attempt to train Red Cloud myself. I did not want this horse “bungled” since it is my intention to keep him until he joins Taffy in the Big Pasture in the Sky. - Click Here to Read More...
